Getting Started
Quartz watch
- Have the battery checked every two years. The battery life is approximately 24 months from the time of assembly or last service. The battery life depends on a number of factors. For instance a Chronograph consumes more energy than a 3 hand timepiece.
- In order to extend the battery life of your watch when it is not in use, gently pull the movement stem/crown out until you feel it click and the hands stop. This will reduce battery consumption. (Please refer to your user manual for more details).
Automatic watch
- When you first purchase an Automatic Ingersoll watch, make sure to wear it every day for at least two weeks. Automatic watches operate through the continued motion of the wearers wrist.
- When winding an Automatic watch, count the number of times you turn the crown. Thirty to forty revolutions guarantees optimum torque.
- Make sure you wind the watch first before setting the hands
- It’s advisable to take the watch off before winding it to prevent unnecessary strain on the winding stem.
- There is no need to keep the watch in motion 24 hours a day when usually only 30mins of motion is necessary to keep it properly wound
- If you do not wear your automatic watch regularly put it on an automatic winding unit. Make sure the unit is programmable and doesn’t run constantly. (A winder cannot overwind an automatic watch).
General care
- Avoid extreme conditions such as heat or cold.
- Keep watch away from prolonged periods of exposure to direct sunlight.
- Your timepiece should not be affected by magnetic fields generated by household items such as televisions and stereos.
- It is recommended that you avoid electric fields or static electricity as these may interfere with the mechanism.
- It is important to avoid extreme shock or impact.
Maintenance
- Store your watch in a soft cloth away from other jewellery, watches and metal objects to lessen the chance of scratches and wear.
- Metal bracelets should be cleaned periodically. Clean with a soft brush dipped in mild soapy water and dry thoroughly with soft cloth.
- We advise having your timepiece serviced every 18 – 24 months by an Ingersoll approved specialist.
- After saltwater use, rinse watch under tap and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
NOTE - Avoid consistent contact with chemicals such as cosmetics, fragrances, detergents, solvents etc, as prolonged exposure may damage the case, gaskets, leather strap or bracelet of your watch.
Water Resistance
All Ingersoll models have a water resistant construction and are individually tested. Check the water resistance level of the watch before submerging into water.
- To maintain water resistance the crown and buttons must be fully pushed into the case and not operated when in contact with water
- Water resistance is not permanent. In the course of time, the gaskets of the case and crown may become worn and may reduce the water resistance of your watch.
- Slight shocks applied to the crown or rapid temperature changes can damage the seals and impair the water resistance.
- Fogging of glass may not necessarily indicate the entry of moisture, it can also be caused by extreme temperature changes. If this occurs, it is highly recommended to check with an Ingersoll approved specialist.
